Math and Science Palette

The goal of the Math Palette project for Pearson’s Higher Education products was to enhance Accessibility, User Interface, and Functionality. This tool houses essential math symbols and notations required by students to tackle their questions effectively.

The math palette is available is a tool for students to use when the answer requires special mathematical formats and symbols (for example, fractions or square roots).

New Business Goals

  • Accessible for all users (keyboard and screen readers)

  • Mobile Optimized for students on the go.

  • Improve usability on free response questions.

Team and roles:

My role was the Senior Visual Designer on the Higher Ed UX Design team. The team consisted of a Product Designer and UX Prototyper.

  • I owned all visual design elements: color, spacing, iconography, layout and interaction design.

  • I partnered with the Product designer on A11Y requirements.

Product Designer worked up the below wireframes considering functionality, information architecture.

We worked hand in hand on the A11Y requirements and mobile responsive screens.

I finalized all the high fidelity components for use and hand off to engineering.
